Developmental Dynamics-Special Issue
Campos-Ortega Special Focus This issue is dedicated to the memory of José Campos-Ortega, Spanish developmental neurobiologist who died prematurely in 2004. He was the Director of the Institute for Developmental Biology in Cologne after having worked in Göttingen, Tübingen and Freiburg. From the years of his first Doctorate in Valencia he was interested in the nervous system. His deep background in Anatomy and Histology allowed him to tackle problems of Developmental Biology from a Molecular and Genetic point of view in an integrative manner, something that he was able to transmit to his students. His contributions to our knowledge of neurogenesis both in invertebrates and vertebrates are extraordinary and the excellent book “The Embryonic Development of Drosophila melanogaster” which he wrote together with Volker Hartenstein has inspired generations of Developmental Biologists. Gary Schoenwolf Editor, Developmental Dynamics These articles are provided free online by Wiley-Liss, Inc., the publishers of Developmental Dynamics, and the American Association of Anatomists, as a service to the scientific community.
