General Requirements & Guidelines for Student/Postdoctoral Awards
- Must be an AAA student/postdoctoral member with dues paid or renewed for 2012 by the EB 2012 abstract submission deadline: November 8, 2012.
- First author and presenter at EB 2012, giving either a poster or a platform presentation.
- Poster up by 8:30 a.m. until 5:00 p.m. on scheduled day. Authors must be at their posters from 12:30-2:00 p.m. Poster presentation is limited to 5 minutes. Judging times for those presenting in non-AAA sessions will be arranged individually.
- Awards presented at the AAA Annual Banquet on Tuesday, April 12; each Travel Awardee is entitled to one free AAA Annual Banquet ticket; additional tickets may be purchased online prior to the meeting. Only competitive award finalists are required to attend the AAA Annual Banquet. Travel Awardees who do not attend the banquet will have their travel award mailed to them after the meeting. The response deadline for the AAA Annual Banquet is March 7. Any applicant who has not responded by this date will not be able to attend the banquet.
- Banquet tickets must be picked up in person by noon on Tuesday, April 12, at the AAA office in the DC Convention Center during EB 2012.
- Applicants may only be judged for one award, in addition to receiving a Travel Award
- Additional requirements and details related to individual awards are noted below. Judges may withhold specific awards at their discretion.
- Only applications with confirmed abstracts will be considered. No substitution of first author/presenter is allowed.

AAA Young Faculty Travel Award – Supported by AAA Second Century Fund. - SEE ABOVE FOR DEADLINES AND REQUIREMENTS!
- Up to five prizes of $500 awarded on a competitive basis, plus a complimentary AAA Annual Banquet ticket.
- Must have been an AAA member for at least one full year prior to abstract/application deadline and be renewed for 2011 by 2011 abstract submission deadline.
- Must be a junior faculty member who is first or last author and presenter of a poster or a platform presentation at EB 2011.
- Recipients notified about six weeks after deadline; checks distributed at the AAA Annual Banquet on Tuesday, April 12.
AAA Student/Postdoctoral Travel Award - SEE ABOVE FOR DEADLINES AND REQUIREMENTS!
- A travel grant, the option to attend the AAA Annual Banquet; no competition required.
- $250 travel grant to AAA Student/Postdoctoral Members who have joined less than one full year prior to the abstract/application deadline; $350 travel grant to AAA Student/Postdoctoral Members who have been an AAA member for at least one full year prior to the abstract/application deadline.
- Checks are mailed to recipients after the meeting or distributed at the AAA Annual Banquet on Tuesday, April 12 to ticketed attendees.
AAA Postdoctoral Platform Presentation Award - SEE ABOVE FOR DEADLINES AND REQUIREMENTS!
- First prize: certificate and $500; runners-up: certificate and $150.
- Must be a postdoctoral fellow or medical resident/intern (within 5 years of Ph.D. or M.D.) requesting an oral presentation.
- Submitted abstracts judged to determine up to 6 finalists, who are notified approximately 6 weeks after abstract deadline.
- Finalists will be judged in the Platform Session on Saturday, April 9, 4-7 p.m. Finalists must also present in a platform session, if selected by session organizer.
AAA Langman Graduate Student Platform Presentation Award – Honors noted embryologist and educator, Jan Langman. - SEE ABOVE FOR DEADLINES AND REQUIREMENTS!
- First prize: certificate and $500; runners-up: certificate and $150.
- Must be a graduate student or medical/dental/vet student requesting an oral presentation.
- Submitted abstracts judged to determine up to 6 finalists, who are notified approximately 6 weeks after abstract deadline.
- Finalists will be judged in the Platform Session on Saturday, April 9, 4-7 p.m. Finalists must also present in a platform session, if selected by session organizer.
Educational Research Platform Presentation Award - SEE ABOVE FOR DEADLINES AND REQUIREMENTS!
- First prize: certificate and $500; runners-up: certificate and $150.
- Open to undergraduates, graduate students, medical/dental/vet students and postdocs requesting an oral presentation related to education or teaching.
- Submitted abstracts judged to determine up to 6 finalists, who are notified approximately 6 weeks after abstract deadline.
- Finalists will be judged in the Educational Research Platform Session on Saturday, April 9, 4 –7 p.m. Finalists must also present in a platform session, if selected by session organizer.
AAA Postdoctoral Poster Presentation Award - SEE ABOVE FOR DEADLINES AND REQUIREMENTS!
- $400 prize and certificate.
- Submitted abstracts pre-judged to determine finalists, who are notified approximately 6 weeks after abstract deadline.

AAA Undergraduate Student Poster Presentation Award - SEE ABOVE FOR DEADLINES AND REQUIREMENTS!
- $400 prize and certificate.
- Must be an undergraduate student giving a poster presentation in an AAA session.
