Onsite Program (pdf)

Saturday, March 28

Professional Development/Career Sessions (8:00 am - 12:30 pm )

Career Networking Lunch (12:30 pm - 1:30 pm )

Topic - Building your Professional Network
Moderator: Marion K. Gordon, Ph.D., Rutgers University
Most people have heard of an "Elevator Pitch", which is a planned statement that can be understood by a non-scientist. To build you professional network, “speed networking” is an activity that can help train people how to present themselves when meeting someone they might want to have in their professional network. It is longer than an elevator speech, using ~4 minutes, an amount of time one might have between sessions at a scientific meeting or at a poster session. The goal of speed networking is to give you confidence when you are meeting someone that might help you in your career by being part of your professional network.
The lunch has a max attendance of 40 people - Boxed lunches are provided.

Career development is important not just for trainees and junior faculty, but for anatomists at all stages of their professional life span. With increasing pressures on research and education, there has been a new focus on supporting the career transitions of mid- and senior-level faculty. The lifetime experience of individuals at advanced career stages allows for contributions to research, teaching, and service in unique and multiple ways. In this luncheon, we will discuss and share strategies and opportunities for mid/senior faculty career transitions, and talk about the resources and academic culture needed to support those transitions.
