An Associate Scientist position is opening immediately to manage the TEM and SEM scopes affiliated with the new Nanotechnology Innovation Center of Kansas State under the direction of Dr. Nancy Monteiro-Riviere at Kansas State University housed within the College of Veterinary Medicine. A Master’s degree with 4 years of experience or PhD in biology, anatomy, cell biology, pathology, biochemistry, microbiology, molecular biology, or other related disciplines is required.
The incumbent will operate both TEM and SEM scopes and should be technically competent and fluent in the latest developments of EM equipment and techniques. Responsibilities for this position include processing, embedding and sectioning tissues samples for TEM and processing various sample preparation techniques (evaporation, sputter coating, critical point drying, etc.) for SEM. Incumbent will perform tissue procurement in house and out-side multiple facilities within the region and will be responsible for using equipment to evaluate samples, maintenance and troubleshooting on a Tecnai G2Spirit Bio (Twin) transmission electron microscope (TEM) and a Hitachi S-3500N scanning electron microscope (SEM). Position is also responsible for all records, billing, files, and general lab managerial duties such as stocking, ordering supplies, maintain a clean and safe lab without clutter and disposing hazardous and chemical waste and will serve as a technical resource and assist faculty and graduate students. Incumbent will evaluate new equipment and procedures and prepare standard operating procedures and be computer literate and able to use existing digital software on the TEM and SEM scopes.
