Hazlett wins Alcon Research Award for outstanding vision research

Linda Hazlett, distinguished professor and chair of Anatomy and Cell Biology for the Wayne State University School of Medicine, has been selected for a 2012 Alcon Research Award for her outstanding contributions in the field of vision research. Hazlett’s research is focused on the host immune response to the gram negative bacterium Pseudomonas aeruginosa, an opportunistic pathogen responsible for many serious human infections, including ocular infections, particularly due to injury in battle and in contact lens usage, where blindness can be the outcome.

The Alcon awards are presented by the Alcon Research Institute, a virtual institute that honors outstanding contributors to ophthalmic research throughout the world.

An AAA member since 1974, Hazlett will use the $100,000 award grant to support a postdoctoral fellow in her lab.
