Education - Kids Back to Popular List
Access Excellence at the National Health Museum
Access Excellence at the National Health Museum is an educational program that provides high school biology and life science teachers access to their colleagues, scientists, and critical sources of new scientific information via the World Wide Web. See their Classrooms of the 21st Century exhibit on science teaching reform.

  Ask a Scientist
An interactive and archived e-mail forum where you can get answers to questions on neurobiology, immunology, and human genetics from scientists affiliated with the Howard Hughes Medical Institute.

  Biotech Adventures
Oklahoma State University faculty in biology (Dr. Meredith Hamilton), animal biotechnology (Dr. Rodney Geisert), plant biotechnology (Dr. Jonathan Shaver), wildlife genetics (Dr. Ronald Van Den Bussche), veterinary science (Dr. Jerry Malayer) and human medicine (Dr. Lee Rickords) have developed a high tech website with materials for teaching biotechnology, plus accurate and entertaining films depicting real applications of biotechnology today.

  Brain Exchange Electronic Mentorship Network
BEEMNET is a research oriented, educational organization that connects elementary school children and their teachers with research neuroscientists (scientists who study the brain and nervous system). BEEMNET is currently redesigning its entire site to include an exciting new project called the "Kids Judge! Neuroscience Fairs Partnership." Also, check out the extensive resource list, Neuroscience Education Resources for Scientists, Teachers, and Parents.

  Brain Facts
A Primer on the Brain and Nervous System by the Society for Neuroscience

  Brains Rule!
The Brains Rule! website presents neuroscience concepts in a learning format designed to explain, while stimulating the process of inquiry and critical thinking, and provides a means for mentorship by neuroscientists and health professionals, a process fundamental to the success of girls and underrepresented groups in these careers.

Cell Biology Animations - By John Kyrk
Educated as a biologist and an artist by disposition, John Kirk presents some interesting and appealing animations demonstrating major concepts of cell biology.

  CSIRO Australia Educational Programs
CSIRO operates a range of exciting science education projects including the Double Helix Club, a science magazine called Scientriffic that's aimed at the 7+ set, and several activities encouraging students to participate in scientific research projects.

  Heart Preview: Franklin Institute
The Franklin Institute Science Museum presents an online version of its original, famous walk-through Heart exhibit.

  High School Human Genome Project
This project offers professional development in DNA sequencing and genomics for high school biology teachers. While geared toward participating teachers and students in the Seattle area, the site is also a resource for others not currently involved in sequencing activities.

  Human Anatomy - About.com
HTML based tutorials on basic cellular anatomy, anatomical terms, physiology, and anatomy of the brain, heart, and blood vessels with hyperlinks branching off to many different areas of interest.

Interactive Frog Dissection: An Online Tutorial
The Interactive frog Dissection was designed for use in high school biology classrooms. With many photographic illustrations and QuickTime movies, this site provides one of the most thorough dissections available online.

  Neuroscience for Kids
Neuroscience for Kids has been created for all students and teachers who would like to learn more about the nervous system. Enjoy activities and experiments on your way to learning more about the brain and spinal cord.

  ScienceHeroes.com
A collection of short biographies of scientists who have saved countless lives with their discoveries.

The Anatomy of Memory - Sheep Brain Dissection
Learn about and explore the anatomy of a sheep brain, through photographs, text and online video.

  The Exploratorium's Cow's Eye Dissection
The Cow's Eye Dissection is one of the most popular demonstrations at the Exploratorium. For many years it has helped people satisfy their curiosity about what is inside an eye. The material presented here is meant not to replace the act of dissecting a cow's eye, but rather to enhance the experience.

  Whole Frog Project
The education goal of the Whole Frog Project is to provide high school biology classes the ability to explore the anatomy of a frog by using data from high resolution MRI imaging and from mechanical sectioning, together with 3D surface and volume rendering software to visualize the anatomical structures of the intact animal. Ultimately we intend to be able to "enter the heart and fly down blood vessels, poking our head out at any point to see the structure of the surrounding anatomy".

  You Try It: DNA Workshop
Fun site with simple multimedia games explaining the processes of DNA replication and protein synthesis.

You Try It: Probe the Brain
In this feature the user gets an electric probe and an exposed brain. All you need to do is shock and observe.
