Developing and Elevating Leaders with Tools for Advancement (DELTA)

Boston, Massachusetts June 26-28, 2023

What is the DELTA Program?

The DELTA Program provides a longitudinal, mentored, leadership professional development opportunity for AAA members. DELTA Fellows will be paired with mentors to meet with throughout the program, during the 3-day retreat and periodically throughout the year, as they work through their leadership goals. The program will culminate with Fellows presenting their leadership and personal accomplishments to the rest of the DELTA cohort at the 2024 AAA meeting. DELTA Fellows will become equipped with critical skills for career advancement, continued professional development and increased engagement within AAA.

Program Requirements

This program will consist of three parts:

  1. Attend the 3-day retreat, with invited speakers, face-to-face mentoring sessions and workshops,
  2. Complete virtual mentored projects
  3. Attend and present final project at the 2024 AAA Annual Meeting in Toronto, ON, Canada

Who should apply?

The DELTA program is focused on helping individuals gain leadership skills and knowledge to better prepare them for new leadership roles and career advancement. Applicants should be planning for a new position, promotion, and/or pursuing opportunities for leadership. DELTA was specifically designed for:

  • Underrepresented and diverse groups in academia
  • Post-docs and early- and mid-career faculty
  • AAA members

3-day Retreat

During the 3-day retreat, the DELTA program will bring together leaders in faculty development and anatomy to cover topics including: development of leadership skills and opportunities, negotiation skills, effective communication skills, feedback, bias education, wellness, and mentoring.  Face-to-face workshops will allow participants to apply what they have learned through simulation exercises.

Registration

Registration to the 3-day retreat in Boston will be free. If accepted, the DELTA fellow assumes responsibility for supporting their own travel, lodging, and associated costs.

Application Requirements

Application will open January 1, 2023 and closes January 31, 2023.

To apply, AAA members will need to submit:

  • curriculum vitae
  • statement of interest for participating in DELTA
  • list of leadership roles within the last 3-5 years
  • previous leadership training or workshop experience
  • 2 specific leadership and/or career advancement goals (short-term and long-term) and any obstacles to reaching those goals that can be addressed through DELTA attendance
