Achieving Excellence

The American Association for Anatomy’s awards program is one of the broadest in the industry. The members-only program bestows more than $350,000 in awards, research grants and scholarships each year. In fact, one in 10 members receives an award, scholarship or grant every year. Many recipients go on to achieve significant success in their careers.

A.J. Ladman Exemplary Service Award
2021 Recipient

I felt honored and delighted to receive this award, which recognizes years of service to the AAA and mentoring of many generations of AAA members. I was involved in AAA from my earliest years as an assistant professor through my now mature career stage. I started on the early career committee and later was elected to the presidential chain (president, president-elect, past president) for six years. Some of my favorite memories are every banquet after the Experimental Biology (EB) meetings, hours socializing in the Anatomy lounge, line-dancing with other anatomists, serendipitous meeting-ups with old colleagues and friends, sitting in amazing presentations and learning something new every day at EB meetings, and meeting and being able to chat with science rock stars, such as Nobel Award winners!
