Congratulations to this Year’s Innovations Program Grant Recipient
Rachel A. Menegaz of the University of North Texas Health Sciences Center (UNTHSC) and the faculty involved in the university’s Summer Opportunities in Anatomy Research (SOAR) Program are the recipients of a $50,000 Innovations Program grant.
The SOAR program was created by faculty UNTHSC as a way to showcase research experiences, graduate training opportunities, and careers in the anatomical sciences, particularly among undergraduate populations that do not share a campus with a graduate anatomy program. The 10-week program provides students 10 weeks of hands-on experiences in anatomy research, education, and outreach in Dallas-Fort Worth area health sciences and research centers.
The Innovations Program grant will provide funding for the 2019 and 2020 SOAR programs and fund AAA membership, meeting registration, travel, and housing for the SOAR interns to attend the AAA annual meeting following their internship. “It is our hope that the current AAA membership will benefit from the participation of these promising young students at the annual meeting and from the increased interest in anatomy graduate programs generated by our efforts,” Menegaz wrote in her award-winning proposal. “We hope that the AAA as a society will be bettered by its continued efforts that focus on diversifying its membership, supporting its student members, and creating an environment that fosters inclusiveness, engagement, and collaboration.”
