Publications Committee

In alignment with the Strategic Plan and its priorities, the Publications Committee’s primary role is to function as a liaison between the organization’s three journals — Anatomical Sciences Education, Developmental Dynamics, and The Anatomical Record — the journal Editor-in-Chiefs (EICs), as needed, and the membership.  The Chair of the committee interfaces with the editors, the Association’s Executive Director, and the publisher, Wiley.

 

The committee must fulfill all responsibilities and committee activities while complying with the association’s Code of Conduct and Ethics, and all other policies in place at the time of service.

 

 

Responsibilities

  • The committee acts as an advocate and promoter for the journals with members, future members, and authors. 
  • The committee assists editors with issues of concern related to recruiting papers and promotion as needed.
  • The committee annually reviews the EICs’ overarching strategic work, to ensure alignment with the AAA’s strategic plan, and when appropriate, makes suggestions for improvement.
  • The committee promotes the journals and the EICs’ initiatives through personal channels.
  • The Chair attends annual publisher meetings and journal editorial board meetings.
  • The Chair serves as the main liaison between the journal EICs’ and the Board.

Reporting

  • The Committee Chair makes a report to the Board at least once a year.

Schedule

  • The committee shall hold video conferences as needed and meet during the Annual Meeting.

Composition

  • 5 members, including the chair.
  • Committee members serve a 3-year term, and the chair serves a 3-year term that is renewable one time. 
  •  The Chair serves as a non-voting, ex-officio member of the Board of Directors.

Application Process

  • Applications are solicited annually through a Call for Volunteers.
  • Applications are reviewed and scored by the Committee Chair and outgoing members; scores, demographics, needs of the committee, and comments from the reviews are taken into consideration when choosing new members.
  • New committee members are chosen and approved by the full Board of Directors.
  • After Board approval, notifications are sent out. Feedback is given if requested by the applicant.
