Meet the Candidates for Student/Postdoc Director

Term: 2026-2029  |  Open Positions: 1  |  Candidates: 2

Jake Shearer, PhD Candidate, Department of Anatomy and Neurobiology, Boston University

Candidate Statement: My passions within the anatomical sciences lie at the intersection of technology, equity, and representation. I am deeply committed to advancing these areas through research and collaboration, and I would be honored to contribute my perspective and experience to the AAA. I believe that my background in educational technology, digital anatomy preservation, and anatomical research positions me to support AAA’s mission in meaningful and forward-looking ways.

My primary area of scientific interest centers on how ethical digital anatomical preservation can democratize access to high-quality anatomical data. This approach can break down barriers for underrepresented students and institutions with limited resources, while also increasing representation and diversity within anatomical datasets. I envision collaborating on initiatives that not only expand gross anatomical research but also promote body donation and consent practices, which are conducted with the highest ethical standards and cultural sensitivity. My dedication to advancing the anatomical sciences field is rooted in the formative experiences I have had with the AAA and my diverse experiences in industry and academia.

I look forward to the opportunity to serve on the Board of Directors and help foster a more inclusive, innovative, and connected community within the anatomical sciences.
